Is this what Darwin saw? For one bird, a feast; the other, folly. One gullet stuffed with tasty, old bread; the other gullet, longing. One bird, continued strength; the other, unavoidable weakness.

Maybe survival has more to do with luck. One bird happened upon a crumb, the other was simply out of position. Never fear for extinction, dear fowl, on the Prague riverfront, there’s always someone ready to feed you.
